CALIGULA, tragedy in four acts par Albert Camus
Caligula was composed in 1938, after a reading of the Twelve Caesars, by Suetonius. I intended this play for the small theater that I had created in Algiers and my intention, quite simply, was to create the role of Caligula. Beginner actors have these ingenuity. And then I was 25, an age when you doubt everything except yourself. The war forced me into modesty and Caligula was premiered in 1946 at the Théâtre Hébertot in Paris.
